7 Tips For Rough Times | Squeak Code

Time codes in description. As always, apologies for poor lighting/focus/audio/rambliness - recently I've wanted to make SqueakCode more about the message when I want to share it. If you're here from Tom Scott & Draw Curiosity, Squeak Code is a completely separate project and unrelated to my work in science communication - it's all about raising awareness for mental health and talking about it. ...

This vlog is all about how Pokémon GO is helping me out with anxiety. Apologies for bad lighting, audio, editing and all that - I decided to make this vlog as I came back from a PokéWalk and felt it worth sharing (and you all said you didn't mind a more casual vlog style... so here goes!) Also - do keep your eyes out for my Pokémon GO video over on Draw Curiosity, I'm so excited about it!! Link...
Is Homophobia a Mental Illness? | Q&A
Переглядів 6 тис.8 років тому
TL;DR: Homophobia and HOCD (an anxiety disorder), are two different concepts not to be confused with each other. This video tackles the misconception surrounding HOCD, what it is and isn't, from the perspective of an OCD POV. It does not aim to speculate further about homophobia beyond it not being a form of OCD. I made this video because I keep being sent this article stating that HOCD is Homo...

A Brief Introduction to Tourette's Syndrome

There is a lot about the syndrome which has not been touched upon...

These are great tips. I've been feeling blue about how isolated I feel a lot of the time because of these neurological issues. It's great just to hear someone coping with similar things giving me a pep talk. It really means a lot!

I have never had hocd because I am also attracted to women too but from experiencing pocd the way I see it is, you question your own identity and can't even trust yourself. For the hocd sufferer it is probably Not really homosexuality that is the issue but the fact that they will have their life and relationships turned upside down. They will no longer have their real attraction, their relationship with their partner, they will no longer be themselves. They will have to Come out. This is what I felt with pocd even thought I don't think that being a p***phile makes you necessarily a monster.

So how do you use it? Is it for tooth protection or is it more of a behavioral conditioning purpose, where you can't do the tic and then find it easier to avoid when not using it?

A phobia is an excessive and IRRATIONAL fear reaction. Take a look at the declining birthrate in the west and it might not seem so irrational to not rally behind gay pride for all. Hence not a phobia technically in many informed opinions. I dont care who people fuck or love as long as its not abuse or counterproductive to creating and/or nurturing life. As long as it doesnt interfere with that responsibility fuck and love whoever u want imo.

Around 30 years ago I lived opposite a man that had a daughter with tourettes and cerebal palsy. She was 16 years old at the time but he was an old man and I never knew what had happened to his wife. However I became involved with them because I owned a car and one time they needed to go somewhere and asked me to help them. I did so and we became friends with me taking them out on short trips etc. He told me that he was embarrassed by her and that previously they had not ventured out much. I realised that the stigma was more about how others see people than how we see ourselves. To cut the story short I used to spend time with her to enable him to go out by himself. She was good company and her torettes was the one where she repeated herself. Shetold me that she hated herself for it because it drew attention to her and she didn't want that (I assume due to her CP). Theymoved away and I never saw or heard from them again, which is a pity. He will most likely be dead now but I like to think that she is still alive and has had a decent life.

Inez you weren't rambling and nothing is cliche where mental health is concerned. Two years ago I underwent amputation surgery and the efeect was devastating. To the point of once I saw my reflection in the mirror and didn't recognise myself. My only thoughts that when I was out of hospital and alone that I would kill myself. My podiatrist caught something that I had said off guard and a psychologist came to talk to me to see if I needed further help. We talked and talked and she advised me not to bottle it up but speak openly about how I felt about myself and my views on my "new" life. This advice I followed and now I belong to some groups and have been invited to talk in some mettings with the view that it would be beneficial to myself and other people. Now I have no problem with myself and no ore suicidal tendencies.

I've been dealing with SAD since the turn of the century. The lamps help, but not as much as working near a window (which was difficult when I worked in one of those horrible cube farms in the US). But now I'm fortunate enough to be able to avoid winter altogether, by crossing the equator twice each year-it really does make life easier! (And the UK is quite a nice place to be in June, with its absurdly long days at that time… it doesn't seem quite as dreary as people say, but then again, when I'm there, people are also complaining about the 'heat' when it's 27°, so I seem to also have fortune with the weather, too…)
